Do you ever wake up with mystery pain?
To wake up with a pain that you didn't go to sleep with can be very frustrating and confusing. Not only can it be confusing, but it can also be scary!
Let’s face it, mystery pain is something most of us have dealt with at one time or another. Why can't I turn my neck? I was moving around just fine before I went to bed! Did I sleep wrong? Did my dog kick me in my sleep? Is it my age?
Many of us love a good mystery, but not when it comes to our health!
There can be many causes for tight or strained muscles after sleep, but I find these are most common.
Sometimes it takes our body a little time to play catch-up to the events of the previous day. Maybe the shoulder exercises felt great while doing them, but now your muscles are inflamed and being a little cranky. We live in an instant gratification culture, so if something doesn’t hurt when we are doing it then we think we are free and clear, but sometimes our body takes a little time to catch up.
Exercise + no Water or too much alcohol can also = muscle pain and spasms due to dehydration!
Stress of Life:
Believe it or not, undealt-with stress can cause a secondary response in our body. Stress that we don't realize during the day can cause us to be tense while we sleep, even to the point of clinching our teeth which leads to some unwanted pain when we wake up.
Many times, we are afraid to move in these situations, afraid of making the pain worse, but it is exactly what we need to do. Some simple stretching before bed can oftentimes alleviate the tension that can otherwise build through the night.
If you have mystery pain that doesn't seem to go away with some simple stretches then give us a call. There may be something deeper going on. We would love to help.
