The Tug of War with Heat Vs. ICE
Half the time we are told to Ice an ache, the other half we are told to Heat it! So which solution provides the best result? Nervous, you are going to do the wrong thing and make an ache or pain worse by choosing heat over ice or vice versa?
You aren't alone. Scroll enough Instagram fitness influencer accounts and the amount of information you find can start to become really confusing.
How do I know what's right for me?
The truth is, sometimes a solution is not one or the other, sometimes it's Both, And!
If icing relieves some temporary discomfort, do it. If heat relieves some temporary discomfort, do it. The key word here is TEMPORARY.
Plot twist: If you are someone experiencing continued pain and discomfort, the temporary relief from ice or heat will not provide continued improvement.
When the momentary relief of icing or heating wears off, and you still feel that pinch in your hip, or ache in your knee, there is a really good chance there is something deeper going on.
